Madhukar Sabnavis a Maths Honours Gold Medallist from St Stephen’s College, Delhi and PGDM from IIM, Ahmedabad. He started his advertising career with Clarion Advertising in 1985 and moved to Ogilvy in 1988. He is on the Ogilvy Worldwide Board and is a member of the company’s Asia Pacific Regional Committee.
Over the last 32 years, he has worked on a number of national and multinational clients and a wide variety of categories like fmcg, durables and services. He helped create a new agency brand for Ogilvy India – Brand David – in the Indian advertising market space which is today part of Bates India. He is currently in charge of brand planning and consumer knowledge for Ogilvy India, in addition to partnering business heads on key local clients.
He set up the planning department in Ogilvy India in 2002. Under his leadership of planning in India, Ogilvy has become a much awarded Indian agency at the Indian Effies and Asian Marketing Effectiveness Awards. He has also developed a number of workshop tools like Ogilvy OpenSource, OgilvyVision and OgilvyCombat that help solve business and brand problems.
Madhukar enjoys sharing knowledge. He has written columns for many business and industry magazines. He has conducted training programs for many clients and taken classes in many business schools. He was also a member of the team that set up the ISDI WWP School of Communication in Mumbai. Madhukar is passionate about cricket and Hindi movies.
His three inspirations in life are:
- Shakespeare in Hamlet – “Above all, to thine own self be true”.
- Mozart – “Nothing in life is carved in stone. Keep evolving”.
- Steffi Graf – “Play to win and if you lose, lose with grace”.
