Nielsen brings real-time interactive ads to TV

In February, Nielsen acquired Gracenote, an “automatic content recognition” (ACR) company which collects personalised data and determines what kind of content is being played on smart devices. Nielsen is now using that technology to serve up targeted, ACR-powered ads which will direct users to a specific brand offer or microsite, based on what thy are watching.

Apple’s new app store features games more prominently

Mobile gaming apps generate so much money for Apple (75 per cent of total App Store revenue) that they are now enjoying pride of place in the newly designed App Store on iOS 11, the operating system that was unveiled alongside the new iPhone 8 and iPhone X.

UK prime minister Theresa May and French president Emmanuel Macron have both proposed fining tech companies which move too slowly to remove extremist content from their platforms, prompting social giant Facebook to concede that the industry as a whole could be doing more to combat the spread of propaganda and radicalisation online.

Microsoft reportedly opening first retail store in London

Tech giant Microsoft has secured storefront space in Oxford Circus, the retail heart of London. The company is reported to be signing a 10 year lease on the property, making it Microsoft’s first location in the UK or Europe.

Pinterest opens up Taste Graph to advertiser targeting

Visual discovery platform Pinterest is making more than 5,000 interests available to advertisers, enabling a greater degree of personalisation in content targeting which can evolve as the user’s tastes and interests change.
