SUSTAINABILITY
Ogilvy New York - In 2007, Ogilvy New York switched
to 100% renewable energy from ConEdison, which generates its electricity
with wind and solar energy. They also use post-consumer recycled
paper products in all bathrooms, and in 2008 100% recycled letter-sized
copy paper will be used on all floors. Ogilvy NY has even trained
the cleaning staff in the benefits of "green cleaning,"
and now uses reusable materials (washable cloths instead of disposable
paper towels) and non-toxic, green seal-approved, eco-friendly
cleaning solutions throughout the building. Ogilvy has also added
OZOcar as a preferred car service. OZOcar has a fuel efficient
fleet that include electric hybrids that use 70% less fuel and
generate substantially cleaner emissions than Town Cars or taxi
cabs.
Ogilvy London - Ogilvy London launched GreEngage,
a three-part effort to tackle climate change. With GreEngage staff
help clients make their businesses more eco-friendly, encourage
employee participation in green efforts and disseminate information
throughout the company. The Ogilvy London office has a recycling
program, uses video conferencing technology instead of traveling
and increased its use of renewable energy supplies. They even
drafted a list of 10 simple green things that can save several
thousand pounds of CO2 a year. Some of the recommendations are
to check your car tires (properly inflated tires improve gas mileage),
use less hot water, adjust your thermostat 2 degrees and turn
off electronic devices when not in use.
Ogilvy Toronto - The installation of "smart
meters" in the Ogilvy Toronto office lets them know how much
energy they're using and where so they can pinpoint what, if anything,
can be done to reduce their power usage. Currently, they have
all fluorescent ceiling lights in offices/work areas/hallways
on a timer to turn on and off at specified times. Employees also
use energy efficient bulbs in all personal lamps. Throughout the
office, all paper products, canned goods, batteries, etc. are
recycled. Employees are encouraged to use office water coolers
rather than bottled water, and the cleaning staff has been asked
to use cold water in the dishwashers.
