PIYUSH
PANDEY
Executive Chairman and National Creative Director, Ogilvy
India
Piyush's father wanted him to become an engineer, but he became
a cricketer instead - playing Ranji Trophy cricket. When his father
came to terms with the cricket, Piyush became a tea taster. And
then Piyush joined advertising. That's when Pandey sr. gave up
on him.
That was 22 and 1/2 years ago. Piyush joined Ogilvy. And he has
stuck to it ever since. As he has stuck to the principle that
absolutely nothing should come in the way of good work. A principle
that has helped O&M India become the country's most creative
agency eight times in the last nine years; earned it the rank
of no. 1 office in the O&M worldwide network; and placed O&M
Mumbai second amongst all creative offices in Asia.
Ad Club Mumbai voted Piyush's commercial for the adhesive brand
Fevikwik as the commercial of the century. And his work on Cadbury's,
as the campaign of the century.
He achieved international recognition in 2002 with his work for
Cancer Pateints Aid Association (2 Grand Prix at the London International
Advertising Festival, 2 Gold Lions at Cannes, a One Show pencil,
a Clio bronze) and Fevicol adhesive (Silver Lion, One Show and
Clio finalist).
In the same year Media Asia named him Asia's Creative Person
of the Year.
In 2004 he became the first Asian to serve as the President of
the Cannes jury.
Piyush is also proud to be a part of Ogilvy's worldwide creative
council.
Has accomplishing all this been an uphill job? Says Piyush: "How
can you call it work when you’re having so much fun!"
