BILL GRAY
Co-Chief Executive Officer, Ogilvy North America

Bill joined Ogilvy & Mather as an Assistant Account Executive in 1978. He was named President of the New York agency in 1997. In July 2005, he added the responsibility of Co-Chief Executive Officer for North America. Bill has been a member of the Worldwide Board since 1994. In Bill’s tenure as President, the New York agency has tripled in size and been named Agency of the Year by both Advertising Age and Adweek. The office is the largest in the Ogilvy network and is the center for most of the global clients. Bill headed the Global American Express account in the ‘90s. Creative work from New York has won an array of international awards such as Cannes Lions, One Show Pencils and numerous Effies, including the Grand Effie for IBM. In 2002, Bill and his Co-Chief Executive Officer, Carla Hendra of OgilvyOne, embarked on an unprecedented integration of the New York operation - spanning 1,600 employees and over 35 clients. As of 2005, they oversee all of North America which represents over a third of Ogilvy’s worldwide revenue and profit. North America consists of operating units in advertising, direct and interactive media, sales activation, digital marketing and public relations.

Bill is very involved in industry as well as outside business, civic and cultural activities. He’s served on the board of the 4As (Association of American Advertising Agencies) and the Ad Council and is a member of the National Advertising Review Board. He is also currently in a six year term as the Chairman of the Board of the American Red Cross of Greater New York, and a trustee of the New York Public Library. In his hometown of Southport, Connecticut, he is on the board of the Wakeman Boys & Girls Club. In 2006 Bill became an independent director of the Century Funds, the oldest mutual fund in America. Bill received his B.A. from Harvard and his M.B.A. from the University of Virginia. He is a native of Boston. Bill and his wife live in Connecticut and New York City. They have two daughters.
