Ogilvy Salutes National Hispanic Heritage Month with LatinRED’s First Annual La Feria Celebration

NEW YORK, October 7, 2009 – Ogilvy is proud to announce that LatinRED, its Hispanic professional network group will host “La Feria” for its employees, clients, and the neighboring community today to salute Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15th through October 15th.

LatinRED’s first annual La Feria, which translates into “the fair” offers an opportunity for everyone to be “Hispanic for a Day” and celebrates the Latin Heritage with the Ogilvy family network. The event is dedicated to providing support and education to all employees who identify with Latin culture and the community, and will showcase various countries of Latin origin such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru,  Puerto Rico, Uruguay and more.

The event, which begins at 4:30 pm and will run until 8 pm, will be hosted at Ogilvy’s new global headquarters in Manhattan, located at the Chocolate Factory on the West Side. The La Feria event will be freeform, with various stations representing a sampling of Latin countries. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience the ‘essence’ of the various cultures by tasting different cuisines and beverages provided by neighborhood restaurants from various Latin countries, listening and dancing to music, viewing sample exhibits by Museo del Barrio and Repertorio Español, and enjoying live entertainment such as Capoeira – an Afro-Brazilian martial art performed by Nação Capoeira, dance performances by Piel Canela Dance Company, and acts from the Nuyorican Poets Café.

“Ogilvy, as an organization, has always been diversified. We embrace all cultures and all people…it is what makes us creative.  It is what makes us who we are…and it is the very principle in which we were founded.  Further, LatinRED is another example of Ogilvy’s expertise all under one umbrella. This is a day in which I am proud to be Hispanic...for a day,” said John Seifert, Chairman, Ogilvy & Mather North America.

As part of this initiative, Ogilvy has been promoting the event internally as well. The LatinRED team, with more than 115 members in its New York office alone, developed a campaign, entitled, “Everyone gets to be Hispanic for a day,” supported by online, email and print signage, displayed throughout the building. The creative imagery displays prominent Ogilvy senior executives and people from all areas of the organization with their names in the footer as they might appear in Spanish or Portuguese (i.e. Paul ‘Pablo’ Hicks, Gunther ‘Gustavo’ Schumacher). The Webisodes show various individuals of international decent speaking without sound.  We, as the viewer, assume by their appearance they are speaking Chinese or French. When the sound comes on, we learn they are speaking Spanish or Portuguese.

“National Hispanic Heritage Month (and diversity) is something that we live every day. With LatinRED and La Feria, we have an opportunity to give back to our employees, our partners, and community and celebrate together,” said Gunther Schumacher, Chief Operating Officer, Ogilvy & Mather North America and Executive Sponsor of LatinRED. “We are incredibly passionate and committed to LatinRED and the other professional groups we have, because it not only supports the common interests of both our employees and clients, but also that of the community.”

Ogilvy clients that will be in attendance include American Express, IBM and SAP among others.
