Joseph Lapia, Jr. Joins Ogilvy Government Relations

Lapia Served as Floor Director for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid

WASHINGTON, June 2, 2009 – Joseph A. Lapia, Jr., who worked the Democratic Cloakroom for Majority Leader Harry Reid, will be joining Ogilvy Government Relations (OGR) as a Senior Vice President.

Serving the Democratic Cloakroom for more than a decade, Lapia's experience advising Democratic Senators, staff and constituent groups on floor activity is an asset that will be incredibly valuable to the OGR team and their clients. Lapia began his Capitol Hill career as an intern for Senator Joe Biden, Jr., in 1998. Since then, he has served as the Doorkeeper for the Senate Sergeant at Arms where he acted as a liaison for Senators and their offices while managing the Galleries.

"We are very excited and fortunate to have Joe join Ogilvy. We are committed to building the strongest bipartisan team in Washington. Our roster of former House and Senate leadership staff on both sides of the aisle provides real-time value to our clients," said Moses Mercado, Managing Director, Ogilvy Government Relations. "Joe is one of a select group of people who maintain an in-depth knowledge of Senate proceedings and working relationships with the Senate."

Last week, Ogilvy added Tony Bullock, former chief of staff to Senator Patrick Moynihan (D-NY).

Lapia will join a growing number of recent Democratic additions to OGR including Matthew Nugen, who served as the National Political Director for Obama for America; Dean Aguillen, former senior advisor and Director of Member Services in the Office of Speaker Nancy Pelosi; Managing Director Moses Mercado, who brings more than 15 years of experience at the highest levels of Congress, including high ranking positions in the U.S. House Democratic Leader's office and the Democratic National Committee; and Managing Director Gordon Taylor, who brings over ten years of years of experience on Capitol Hill, most recently a Chief of Staff to Congressman Chris John.
