HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam, July 15, 2009 – Ogilvy & Mather, a WPP company, announced today it has acquired a majority stake in T&A Communications, a leading public relations agency in Vietnam. The announcement coincides with the visit to Ho Chi Minh City of Sir Martin Sorrell, CEO of WPP, the world's leading marketing communications group.
The venture will be named T&A Ogilvy JVC Ltd., and will formalize a working relationship that T&A Communications has had with the Ogilvy Public Relations Group since 2002. Its aim is to help lead the growth and development of Vietnam's PR industry, through an offering that combines global best practice and local insight. T&A Ogilvy will be part of the growing Ogilvy & Mather Group in Vietnam that now includes Ogilvy & Mather Advertising, Ogilvy Public Relations, Ogilvy One, OgilvyAction and Redworks.
"Ogilvy and T&A have worked together for many years, and we are delighted that T&A is officially joining the Ogilvy group. There are numerous opportunities to build new practices and professionalism into the Vietnamese PR industry, which is still relatively new; and T&A Ogilvy is an ideal platform to leverage this, said Alan Couldrey, Ogilvy & Mather's Regional Director for Indochina.
"T&A's strong foundation in Vietnam, combined with Ogilvy's global network and proprietary expertise, will provide our clients with more innovative and international-standard services as well as enable access to the huge resource of talent and unique solutions in the Ogilvy Public Relations world," commented Nguyen Thanh Son, T&A Communications Chief Executive Officer and Founder, and now T&A Ogilvy General Director.
T&A Communications was formed 14 years ago in Hanoi and has grown to become one of the country's leading public relations companies, with a branch office in Ho Chi Minh City, a staff of 57 public relations professionals and a client base comprised of major multinational and leading local brands. This includes Amway, APC, Boeing, Best Carings, Canon, Cartier, France Telecom, Gamuda Land, GE, Nestlé Vietnam, Standard Chartered Bank, SAP, Temasek Holdings, Tata Steel, VietJet Air, and Yahoo!.
This investment continues WPP's strategy of developing its networks in fast-growing markets and sectors like Vietnam, which has been identified by Goldman Sachs as one of the 'Next 11' world economies to watch. WPP has been operating in Vietnam for more than ten years through companies like Ogilvy & Mather, Bates141, Group M and TNS. In 2008, it took a stake in Smart Media and, through Group M, took stakes in three subsidiaries of the Dacviet VAC Group Holdings.
