LONDON, January 26, 2010 – Leading London advertising agency Ogilvy is hoping to put something back into the community – by offering its services free of charge for three days in February.
The Canary Wharf-based agency – whose blue-chip clients include Ford, Unilever, BT, American Express and IBM – is opening a pop-up branch in Brixton Village Market called Idea Shop. Over the three days (4th to 6th February), Idea Shop will function as an advertising and marketing clinic for local businesses, community projects, charities, arts groups and other organisations and individuals in the area.
Visitors will be able to take advantage of the Ogilvy group’s expertise in areas such as advertising, PR, digital, email, social media, strategy, direct marketing, branding, design and copywriting.
“We’re open to anyone and everyone, from small businesses and social enterprises to community projects to charities and arts projects; we want them to come and take advantage of our services completely free of charge,” says copywriter Ruth Jamieson, who came up with, and who’s also running, the scheme. “Small local businesses are the lifeblood of their communities and play a vital role in the UK economy. Marketing plays an essential role in the successes of any enterprise but these businesses can’t afford to employ communications professionals. With this scheme we’re hoping to at least put them in the right direction by giving them some practical advice and help.”
Interested parties are invited to book in for an hour of thinking during which time the Idea Shop team will set their minds to any marketing, advertising or communication problem brought to them.
The Idea Shop team – all volunteers – consists of top-notch advertising and marketing creatives, strategists and planners who ordinarily work for the agency’s big brands. As well as their individual areas of expertise, team members will be able to advise on related areas such as mastering the web, brainstorming and pitching.
If successful, Ogilvy hopes to open Idea Shops in other areas of London later in the year. A special website and blog, http://ideashop.ogilvy.co.uk, goes live on Tuesday, 26th January.
