Colin Drummond Joins Ogilvy & Mather West From CP+B

LOS ANGELES, CA, April 29, 2010 – Highly regarded planner Colin Drummond is joining Ogilvy & Mather West as Senior Partner, Head of Planning from Crispin Porter + Bogusky, where he was lead strategist for the past six years.

colin drummondIn his new role at Ogilvy & Mather West, Drummond will oversee strategic planning on such accounts as Cisco, Arco am/pm and Nature Made and will lead an aggressive build of the agency’s planning capabilities on the West Coast.

Heather MacPherson, President of Ogilvy & Mather West, said that the west coast is a key growth market for Ogilvy & Mather. “Our clients are looking for us to help their brands have cultural relevance and impact. Colin takes a broader view of what interactivity means today for brands and consumers built around the way a brand is experienced as a whole. This thinking is critical to enhancing our work with existing clients and our growth in the region.”

Drummond was the lead strategist on some of CP+B’s most famous work, including the revolutionary MINI and Burger King campaigns. (The latter led to 21 quarters of growth, tripled unaided brand awareness and won the Account Planning Group’s “Jay Chiat Planning Award” for 2005.)  He was selected as one of Advertising Age's top "Up and Comers" in 2007.

“I’m thrilled that Colin Drummond is joining us,” said Colin Mitchell, Joint Worldwide head of Planning. “I’ve watched with interest as he has grown his department at CP+B into one of the most innovative in the world. He has pioneered the use of journalists and sociologists as brand strategists, and is one of the leading thinkers on the relationship between culture and branding. I’m really excited to work with him.”

In commenting on his move to Ogilvy, Colin Drummond said, “Ogilvy & Mather is an agency with a rich heritage in planning and a strategic approach to helping brands realize their connection with the world around us  – a cultural and business imperative that aligns with work I have done fusing marketing with culture and social insights. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work on big global brands and be part of Ogilvy & Mather West’s growth strategy.”

High profile planning leaders have been recruited by Ogilvy & Mather North America this year, which has been central to the agency’s strategy for growth and delivering culturally significant brand ideas.  Within North America, the agency has added planning leaders Graceann Bennett in Chicago and Tim Maleeny in New York, as well as Ben Richards who joined the agency from Naked in a newly created position as Worldwide Head of Strategy & Integration.  Other new senior additions include Dan Ng, Marta La Rock, Phil Buhler and Magnus Blair.

Drummond has been featured as one of the world’s leading planners. During his tenure with CP+B, its planning department was rated three years in a row as the best in the world in an independent survey. He is one of the most widely read bloggers in the planning community (http://colindrummond.posterous.com/) and is also a frequent and noted speaker. Prior to CP+B, Drummond worked for Mullen, Citron Haligman Bedecarre and V&B/Arnold.
