Marcia Silverman

Global Chief Executive Officer
Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide

I am the Global Chief Executive Officer of Ogilvy PR Worldwide, and I have been with Ogilvy since 1981.

I can honestly say that I have stayed this long because of the culture. Ogilvy PR's culture is a nurturing one, but more importantly it is a learning one. Ogilvy PR's greatest strength is our integrated global network, as we have a meaningful presence in every global region led by a deep bench of strategic and creative leaders.

Many industry practitioners have asked if the rise of digital media has forever transformed our industry. I would say both yes and no.

It is simply impossible to do the business of public relations without engaging in all forms of new media – digitization is simply a fact for our industry now. We are in an age where a communications partner must engage the entire spectrum of contemporary communication channels, from social media to word-of-mouth programs to influencer marketing. However, I believe these to be tools that can amplify and give added credence to a client's message. The message still comes first.

I have had an incredible career at Ogilvy PR, and I would have to say the highlight has been the agency's expansion into a true, effective global network. I am very proud that our clients, our culture and our people are truly global.

My favorite David Ogilvy quote is: "We prefer the discipline of knowledge to the anarchy of ignorance."
