The lack of access to drinking water is a growing problem in Colombia, with almost 4 million people living in desert areas which do not have the necessary hydration resources. Amidst this problem Ogilvy Colombia and the Baylor Foundation, with the help of the Colombian Red Cross, developed 1,000 biodegradable "Filter Caps" which affix to bottles of water to mineralize the water and make it safe for consumption. The Filter Caps were created via 3D printing, and are made from sweet corn starch-based resin—a sustainable and biodegradable option—which considerably reduces dependence on conventional plastics.
